When a college football team has national championship aspirations, the margin for error throughout the season is almost zero. Since the introduction of the four-team playoff, that margin has been opened up a little bit, as evidenced by Ohio State’s national championship last season, after a stunning 35-21 loss to Virginia Tech in the second week of the season.
